Leaving Cert Spanish

Leaving Cert Spanish oral: a practical preparation guide.

Build a repeatable routine for speaking clearly, extending answers and handling the oral exam with more confidence.

Leaving Cert resource

A practical guide you can use this week.

  • Practise personal topics aloud rather than only reading notes.
  • Build expandable answers: answer → reason → example → follow-up detail.
  • Record short responses and listen for clarity, pace and recurring errors.
  • Practise reacting to unexpected follow-up questions.

What strong preparation looks like.

The oral becomes easier when preparation moves beyond memorising isolated model answers. Students need flexible vocabulary, familiar topic structures and regular speaking practice.

  • Practise personal topics aloud rather than only reading notes.
  • Build expandable answers: answer → reason → example → follow-up detail.
  • Record short responses and listen for clarity, pace and recurring errors.
  • Practise reacting to unexpected follow-up questions.

A simple weekly routine.

Two or three short speaking sessions each week are more useful than one long session immediately before the exam.

  • 10 minutes: personal questions and familiar themes.
  • 10 minutes: role-play / stimulus-style spontaneous language where relevant.
  • 5 minutes: pronunciation and correction review.
  • Finish by noting five expressions you want to reuse next time.
